Choices...

The Lord spoke to Jeroboam by the prophet Ahijah of Siloh (1Kings 11:29-39) and gave a promise that he will be king over the ten tribes of Israel.  The Lord said he would established a dynasty as enduring as David’s, if he will followed God’s commandments.  However, Jeroboam chose to established new idols over Israel.  He created golden calves and imposed them as Israel's gods.  This was his legacy…He made the Israel sin (1Kings 13:33-34)

King Jeroboam was faced with choices.  When the Lord spoke; did He find Him credible? Did he see the Lord fulfill any of his promises?  Did the Lord fulfilling his word in any way increase Jeroboam’s faith? Did he seek the Lord in order to understand?  Did he choose believe? The outcome was disbelief as fear overtook him, and the thought of loosing the kingdom to Rebohoam, led to idolatry (1 Kings 12:26).

There have been times in my life when I’ve faced choices.  Did the Lord really say that?  What did he actually mean?  Will I chose to believe as I see him fulfill some of what he has said?  Do I seek to understand him?  Will I allow fear to overtake me, or will I choose to submit to his will? These are my life choices.  Then I reflect on the legacy of others (Romans 15:4).  May my Lord have mercy on me I pray, as he fulfills his words, and I choose to believe him.  May he continue his work in me (Philippians1:6) as I submit to his will.
