While I am waiting...

Waiting is part of living.  You wait for the completion of an education.  You wait for the right position to come, and jump start your career.  You wait for the right ministry opportunity.  You wait to meet the person you will marry.  You wait for the birth of your child.  You wait every year for vacation.  You wait all week for the weekend.

I am looking forward to the end of my waiting.  As I wait, I think of one who knows about waiting.  I think of Abraham.  Abram was called by the Lord to leave his home, his family and his land at the age of 75; Genesis 12:4.  The Lord promises to make him a great nation and to make his name great; Genesis 12:2-3.  After he arrives in Canaan, the Lord blesses him with many riches.  Abram continues to worship the Lord and have a close relationship with him.  He continues to fulfill his responsibilities.  He rescues Lot from enemies who have taken him hostage; Genesis 14:11-16.  He gives honor to those who bless the Lord like Melchizedek; Genesis 14:18-20. He does works of righteousness; Genesis 14:22-23.  He grieves for the heir he lacks; Genesis 15:2-3.  At the age of 100, he and Sarah welcome a son, Isaac; Genesis 21:2-5.  Yet Abraham, always lived in tents and as a foreigner in the land he was promised.  He did not see all the promises given by the Lord fulfilled; Hebrews 11:8-10.

As I wait, I continue my routine.  I try to fulfill the works he has prepare beforehand for me to do; Ephesians 2:10.  I trust, pray, and thank him for his grace upon grace.  I learn more of his word and continue to develop a closer relationship with him.  Maybe I will never see in this life all the Lord has done for me, or understand everything about him, but I like Abraham have faith.  My faith has been tested.  My faith has been strengthen.  My faith has grown.  It all happens; while I am waiting...
